The most common one is that you need to sit crossed legged and think of nothing. Those that can do this, have “no thought” have a technique that aids them to reach this state of pure consciousness. Often associated with monks devoting there whole life’s and day to meditating and chanting. Other techniques use rosary beads or mala beads as aids to meditation, some adopt meditation imagery such as guided journeys or candle gazing. People throughout ages have developed many resourceful methods to invoke the meditative state intentionally. All these techniques have one thing in common, they help block out any distractions so ones awareness is isolated to the meditators desired purpose. It is an enforced sensory deprivation and the individual is able to reach the inner space of tranquility and consciousness. It is not to escape reality but a true reconnection to the spiritual part of yourself and your essential nature and aids you in the big questions and mysteries of life as to really know who we are.
